Non-recyclable waste
What do you need to know ?
Your green/green lidded bin will be collected every three weeks as per your bin collection calendar. Bins should be placed out the night before collection day, however in some town centre areas bins may require to be placed out on the day of collection.
Collections will take place between 5.45am - 2.00pm (Mon-Thur), 5.45am-1.30pm (Fri).
Do not place any additional bags next to your green bin. If you have additional waste you can arrange for bulky household waste to be collected via the special uplift service. You can also take a wide range of bulky household waste and recyclates to your local Recycling Centre.
Please note that only one green bin per household will be emptied. However, for households that have six or more people residing in the one house or for householders that have clinical needs, permission may be granted for an additional green bin. An application may be made for an additional green/green lidded bin and each application is individually assessed.
What goes in my green bin?
Your green/green lidded bin is for waste that cannot be recycled, including polystyrene.
Waste that cannot be recycled is commonly called "black bag waste", "general waste" or "residual waste". The best description of this waste is "non-recyclable waste", which reflects the fact that containers for such waste should only contain anything that is left after all efforts to recycle have been exhausted.
The household recycling charter states: We will reduce the capacity provided for waste that cannot be recycled to give the appropriate motivation to our citizens to recycle. Thus, we will ensure that all citizens, whether at the kerbside or within their local community, are limited to non-recyclable (i.e. black bag/general waste/residual waste) waste volumes in line with the established Code of Practice.
