COVID-19: latest update on how our services are affected and the support available

Christmas and New Year service arrangements

Housing Services will close at 4.45pm on Christmas Eve and will re-open on Tuesday 5th January 2021 at 8.45am (offices will remain closed due to Covid-19). 

If you are homeless and need help with temporary accommodation during this period, please contact the Homeless Standby Service on 0808 100 3151.

Making Payments

To make a payment to your rent account, please call the council's Telephone Payment Service which is available 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Simply call 0300 123 0900 and remember to have your 13 digit payment reference (which can be found on your rent payment card) when you call.

Emergency & Standby Services

To report an emergency repair at any time, please contact 0300 123 0900.

If you smell gas or detect a gas leak call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.


Pay council bills and parking fines online, using our secure payments service, with your credit or debit card. These services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Use your computer, tablet or smartphone to make a payment.

Bin collections during the festive season

If your wheeled bin or food waste caddy is due for collection on Christmas Day or New Year's Day, collections are as follows: blue or grey recycling bins (Saturday 26th December and 2nd January), green bins or glass recycling bins (Sunday 27th December and 3rd January), food waste bins should be presented on both Saturdays and left out to be collected between Saturday and Sunday. All bins must be presented by 6am.

Collections on 28th December and 4th January will be carried out as normal unless you are notified of alternative arrangements by letter. All bins must be presented by 6am.

There will be no special uplift collections from Wednesday 23rd December until Tuesday 5th January.

Community recycling centres at Ayr, Troon, Maybole and Girvan will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Day and 2 January. Normal operating hours will apply at other times.

You can arrange for your real Christmas tree to be recycled free in your brown bin by visiting telephoning 0300 123 0900to arrange an uplift.

Commercial Waste normally collected on Christmas Day or New Year's Day will be collected as a catch up service (Saturday/ Sunday 26th/ 27th December 2nd/ 3rd January). Commercial customers requiring any additional collections over the festive period should call 01292 616 436by Friday 18th December.

Customer Services will continue to provide a telephone only service during the festive period on the dates and times noted below:

Thursday 24th December open from 9:00 - 16:45 as normal

Fri  25th - Mon 28th December CLOSED

Tue 29th -  Thur 31st December Open from 9:00 - 16:45 as normal

Fri 1st -  Mon 4th January CLOSED

Our Phone lines will then Re-open as normal on Tuesday 5th January at 9:00.  In line with government guidance our Customer Service Centres remain closed.

Sport and Leisure

Please note All south Ayrshire Leisure Facilities are now closed for the Christmas period. Due to COVID restrictions will not reopen until Monday 1st February or until we have a further update from the Scottish Government.

 From the 5th January we will have staff available to answer enquiries over the phone and by email.  Please call the office from 5th January during our office hours 8.45 to 4.45 Monday to Thursday and 8.45 to 4pm Friday.  Alternatively you can email us on

Bereavement services and registration

Ayr office closes: Thursday 24th December 2020 at 4.00 pm.

Office opening times:

Tuesday 29th December: 9:00am -  4:00pm

Wednesday 30th December: 9:00am -  1:00pm

Thursday 31st December: 9:00am -  1:00pm

Office re-opens:- Tuesday 5th January 2021: 8:45am
