Published 23 July 2025
It is with regret that South Ayrshire Council confirms the sad passing of Councillor Mark Dixon on Tuesday 22 July 2025.
Councillor Dixon died at Hairmyres Hospital last night.
South Ayrshire Council Provost, Iain Campbell, said: "I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Councillor Mark Dixon.
Mark was dedicated to his role of councillor for Ayr North and always aimed to make improvements to the lives of those he represented.
As a colleague, Mark was calm, considered and easy to get along with. He was a keen environmentalist and especially passionate about issues such as keeping our oceans clean for the benefit of the future of the planet.
Mark will be missed by his fellow councillors and members of staff he worked with during his time in office. On behalf of the Council, I wish to offer my sincere condolences to Mark's family at this very sad time. Our thoughts and sympathies are with them all as they come to terms with their loss."
Councillor Dixon first became a South Ayrshire Councillor in May 2022 and represented the Ayr North Ward.
As a mark of respect, the flags at County Buildings will be flown at half mast.
