South Ayrshire Council Supports the 16 Days of Action
Published 20 November 2025
South Ayrshire Council is proud to support the 16 Days of Action to end violence against women.
The initiative aims to raise awareness of gender-based violence and encourages people to acknowledge, discuss and work together to drive change.
The campaign will begin on Tuesday 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and end on Human Rights Day on Wednesday 10 December. This year's theme is 'All together for preventing and eradicating violence against women and girls'.
The South Ayrshire Violence Against Women Partnership have worked alongside our Thriving Communities team and other local agencies to organise a range of events in support of the campaign over the duration of the 16 days.
These include the popular Reclaim the Night Walk which will take place on Tuesday 26 November; White Ribbon Pledge signings; informative webinars; community play screenings, and more.
Councillor Laura Brennan-Whitefield, Chair of the Violence Against Women Partnership, said: "I am pleased that South Ayrshire Council is once again supporting the 16 Days of Action campaign, which plays a vital role in raising awareness of domestic abuse and the support available to those affected.
"It is essential that everyone in our communities understands that help is available and that no one has to face abuse alone. We are committed to working in partnership with local organisations to provide assistance, raise awareness and demonstrate our support for anyone experiencing abuse."
Councillor Hugh Hunter, South Ayrshire Council's Policy Lead for Health and Social Care, said: "The 16 Days of Action initiative continues to be an important part of our efforts to address and prevent abuse in all its forms. The campaign not only raises awareness but also reinforces the message that support is available to those who need it most.
"As a Council, we are dedicated to working collaboratively with our partners to protect vulnerable individuals, promote safety and wellbeing, and help bring about lasting, positive change in the lives of those affected.
