The annual South Ayrshire Sports Awards recently took place to celebrate those who make a positive impact in schools and communities across South Ayrshire.

The event, organised by South Ayrshire Council's Thriving Communities team and supported by funding from sportscotland, took place on Tuesday 2 December and was held at Troon Concert Hall. 2025 saw a busy year for local athletes, coaches, volunteers, clubs and schools and the awards ceremony enabled all those who are making a difference to be recognised for their efforts.

Over 150 nominations were received and reviewed by an independent judging panel who shortlisted two finalists and a winner from each of the 15 categories.

The winners were:

Active Schools Leader of the Year (Silver) - Hannah Arokianathan (QMA)

Active Schools Leader of the Year (Gold) -  Chloe Campbell (QMA)

Active Schools Volunteer of the Year - Caitlin Lawrie (Dalmilling PS)

Active Schools Volunteer of the Year (School Staff) -  Rachel Holmes (Kyle Academy)

Young Volunteer of the Year -  Blair Kidd (Glenburn Miners Football Club)

Volunteer of the Year -  Rachel Cox (Monkton Milers)

Inclusive Coach of the Year -  Craig Paterson (Prestwick St Cuthbert Archery Club)

Initiative of the Year -  Monkton Milers Jog Scotland

Young Volunteer Coach of the Year -  Ross Houston (Prestwick Tennis & Fitness)

Volunteer Coach of the Year -  Anne Gerard

Sue McClure Award -  Brodie McKenzie (Belmont Academy and eeVo Training)

Talented Athlete Award -  Isla Cuthbert (Kyle Academy, Infinity and Scotland Cheerleading

Team (or Squad) of the Year -  Senjokai Karate Team

Provost Club of the Year -  Whitletts Victoria Football Club

Lifetime Achievement Award -  Stevie Neilson (Handball)

In addition to this, Kyle Academy were awarded the Spirit of Sport Award for recognition of the school's ongoing dedication and commitment to creating diverse opportunities for young people. The award highlights the school's contribution to encouraging participation in sport; developing pupils as young leaders; valuing the commitment of staff who volunteer to deliver a wide range of sporting opportunities and celebrating the achievement in the school and within the wider community.

South Ayrshire Council Depute Provost, Mary Kilpatrick, also attended the awards ceremony and presented the Provost Club of the Year Award.

Talented young people from St Patrick's Primary School choir, Infinity Allstars Cheerleaders and a piper also gave fantastic performances during the course of the evening.

South Ayrshire Council's Policy Lead for Education and Lifelong Learning,

Thanks to the dedication of the coaches and volunteers, our young people can experience endless opportunities within sport which will support them to lead active, happy and healthy lives."

South Ayrshire Council's Policy Lead for Leisure and Community Services, Councillor Chris Cullen, said: "The South Ayrshire Sports Awards is an absolutely fantastic platform to celebrate the incredible people who pour so much time, passion, and energy into our sporting communities. Getting involved in sport or joining a club doesn't just build essential skills like teamwork and communication — it also creates a real sense of community and belonging. A huge well done to everyone who helped make this event such a tremendous success, and heartfelt congratulations to all of this year's winners!"
