The South Ayrshire regional heats of the annual Euroquiz competition were held on Tuesday 24 March at Ayr Town Hall.
The Euroquiz competition is an annual competition which has been running since 1993 and is organised by Scotland's National Centre for Languages (SCILT). Primary 6 pupils from across Scotland compete to test their knowledge on topics such as geography and history, languages, European affairs, and general knowledge.
The winners of the South Ayrshire heats were Doonfoot Primary School where the pupils will now go on to compete at the national final held in Edinburgh this June. Alloway Primary School were runners up in this year's competition.
Over 70 P6 pupils from 17 schools took part in this year's competition which was hosted by Mark Pentleton, Owner of Coffee Break Languages.
S6 Language Ambassadors from Queen Margaret Academy, Prestwick Academy and Marr College also supported the event by assisting with the running of the competition.
Director of Education, Scott Mulholland said: "The Euroquiz competition is a fantastic initiative that emphasises the importance of learning other languages and cultures while working collaboratively as part of a team. I'd like to congratulate Doonfoot Primary School on winning the South Ayrshire regional heats and wish them all the very best for the final!"
