Memberships are up at revamped Prestwick Leisure Club
Issued 12 March 2026
On 10 March, Councillors on the Service and Partnerships Performance Panel were given an update on Prestwick Leisure Club, which reopened in October 2025.
Following an extensive refurbishment, stats show that the facility has performed well, with active fitness memberships increasing by 33%, when compared with pre‑closure levels.
Attendance between October and December 2025 reached 24,113 visits—an increase of 38.4% and the Learn2Swim programme has also exceeded previous participation levels by 21%, with December attendance peaking at 3,395.
A key ambition for the refurbishment was energy efficiency. The SALIX Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme led to the installation of high‑efficiency heating and ventilation systems and full LED lighting.
The changes are working; between October and December 2025, gas consumption reduced by 89,100 kWh (39%) and electricity consumption fell by 44,600 kWh (61%) compared to the same period in 2023. These improvements are expected to save the council well over £40,000 per year.
Jane Bradley, Director of Communities and Transformation for South Ayrshire Council said: "I'm thrilled that the spacious and modern changing village, improved poolside, welcoming reception area and upgraded gym have made a big impression with customers and staff.
"The increasing membership numbers along with the energy efficiency savings are headline grabbing figures. All the installations as part of the SALIX Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme are making a huge difference already."
