Groundbreaking ceremony marks beginning of construction for new Girvan Primary School Campus

Girvan PS Groundbreaking

A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Monday 2 February to mark the commencement of works on the new Girvan Primary School and Early Years Centre.

Pupils and school staff were joined at the site by councillors, representatives from Kier, and guests to celebrate the milestone in the delivery of this project.

The new campus, which is now under construction on the existing school site, will accommodate a brand-new Primary School building as well as a standalone single-storey Early Years Centre with its own entrance and reception.

The Primary School building will have classrooms over two levels and a dedicated Additional Support Needs (ASN) base. Upon its completion, which is on track for 2027, pupils will move into the new building and demolition of the existing school will begin, ensuring a smooth transition and minimal disruption to learning.

South Ayrshire Council's Depute Leader and Policy Lead for Commercial/Operational Services, Councillor Alec Clark, whose portfolio includes rural affairs, said: "It's fantastic to see works beginning on the new Girvan Primary campus. The new school will provide a modern space for learning and a hub for the Girvan residents - one that will serve the community for many years to come."

South Ayrshire Council's Policy Lead for Education and Lifelong Learning, Councillor William Grant, said: "This groundbreaking event marks a big step forward for Girvan Primary. The innovative project will ensure that children in Girvan have access to first-class learning facilities from the Early Years stage, inspiring an excitement for learning early on."

South Ayrshire Council's Policy Lead for Housing and Property Services, Councillor Martin Kilbride, said: "I'm pleased to celebrate this milestone in the construction of the new Girvan school campus. This landmark project showcases our dedication to investing in innovative school facilities that are sustainable, fit for purpose, and are designed with our communities in mind."

Phil McDowell, regional director for Kier Construction North & Scotland, said: "Today marks an exciting milestone for Girvan as we break ground on a project that has been shaped by the ambition and dedication of South Ayrshire Council and the local community.

"We are looking forward to delivering this transformative new campus, drawing on our experience of creating high-quality learning environments across Scotland. This development will deliver long-term positive impact for children, families and the wider Girvan community, and we are proud to play a part in bringing this vision to life."
