NEWS UPDATED

Coylton Primary School and Early Years Centre (EYC) were highly commended in a recent report by Education Scotland, where they were marked as 'very good' or 'excellent' across all areas.

Inspectors from His Majesty's Inspectorate of Education (HMIE) visited Coylton Primary School in November 2025 to conduct an inspection. To prepare the report, they engaged with parents/carers and children and worked closely with the headteacher and staff.

The inspection team identified that children were proud of their school and community, and were polite, well-mannered, and keen to share their experiences.

The headteacher, leadership team, and staff were praised within the report, noting the strong leadership and sense of teamwork amongst colleagues. Staff are enthusiastic to lead change, have developed a warm and inclusive environment for children, and are proactive in identifying and meeting the needs of children who require additional support.

Inspectors from HMIE and the Care Inspectorate also gave an extremely positive report on Coylton EYC, noting that children experienced a nurturing environment that promoted emotional wellbeing, with dedicated staff who have taken time and care to get to know each individual child.

A stimulating learning environment paired with highly motivated and professional staff support children at Coylton EYC to make excellent progress and develop confidence.

Donna Docherty, Depute Head Teacher of Coylton Primary School said: ""I am extremely proud of the very positive report. It reflects the dedication and professionalism of our staff, the supportive leadership across the school, and the enthusiasm shown by our children every day. We are incredibly proud of our vision, Cultivating Our Young Learners Through Outstanding Nurture, which guides everything we do. A big well done to our fantastic team!"

Councillor William Grant, South Ayrshire Council's Policy Lead for Education and Lifelong Learning said: "This is an excellent achievement for Coylton, and the headteacher, senior leadership team, and staff should be very proud. The report shows that this school is a place where children feel secure, confident, and eager to learn and progress.
