Council approves proposals for disabled parking provision

NEWS UPDATED

South Ayrshire Councillors approved proposals by the Ayrshire Roads Alliance (ARA) to ensure compliance with disabled parking regulations, at the Council's Cabinet meeting of Tuesday 23 September.

To determine where disabled bays must be provided, upgraded, or added to ARA's Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) to allow for active enforcement to take place, ARA recently carried out a review of disabled parking provision across the Council's estate.

Councillors agreed recommendations to add all identified unregulated disabled bays to a TRO, and to upgrade provisions within public premises to meet standards for bay markings and signage.

It was also agreed that the ARA will begin to engage with private car park owners in the region to establish if they wish the Council to provide enforcement for their disabled parking bays.

South Ayrshire Council's Depute Chief Executive and Director of Housing, Operations and Development, Kevin Braidwood, said: "I'm pleased that work can begin on upgrading and increasing the number of enforceable disabled parking bays within South Ayrshire. Upon completion of the work, disabled parking bays will be available at the majority of public Council premises."
