Council approves ownership transfer of Coylton Tennis Club
South Ayrshire Council's Cabinet has approved the transfer of ownership of the Coylton Tennis Club property to Coylton LTC, a registered Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO).
Coylton LTC has leased the tennis club from the Council since 1995, and recently applied for full ownership via the Community Asset Transfer process. The transfer, made under the Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act 2015, will see the club purchase the site for a discounted sum of £3,000.
The transfer is expected to deliver a range of benefits for the Coylton community, including regeneration of an important local sports facility, greater accessibility and it will allow the group to secure grant funding to resurface the courts. The club also hopes to improve fencing and lighting.
Leader of South Ayrshire Council, Councillor Brian Connolly said: "This is a great example of how communities can take ownership of local assets and shape their future. By transferring the ownership of the club we're helping to secure the long-term future of a much-loved facility, and it will also allow the club to access vital funding, improve the courts, and continue offering inclusive opportunities for people of all ages to stay active through sport."
