Council Makes Progress on Climate Change Commitments

NEWS UPDATED

Issued 27 November 2025

South Ayrshire Council has published its Public Bodies Climate Change Duties Annual Report for 2024-2025, which highlights ongoing progress in reducing carbon emissions and supporting national climate targets.

The annual submission, which is collated by the Sustainable Scotland Network on behalf of the Scottish Government, outlines the Council's efforts and emissions performance over the last financial year.

The report confirms that South Ayrshire Council has achieved a 6.5% reduction in measured emissions since 2023/24; a 32.7% reduction since 2019/20; and a 50.6% reduction since the 2014/15 baseline year from which the Council's climate targets are measured.

Over the last year, our building emissions reduced by 9%, driven by Council-led interventions, including the installation and use of Building Energy Management Systems in our council operational buildings; and our fleet emissions decreased.

Councillor Martin Kilbride, South Ayrshire Council's Policy Lead for Housing and Property Services said: "The report shows clear and continued progress in our efforts to tackle climate change across South Ayrshire. Reducing our emissions by more than 50% since 2014/15 is a fantastic achievement, and reflects the collective commitment of our services, staff, and partners to creating a more sustainable future for our communities.

"We are committed to building on this progress and continue our journey towards a cleaner, greener and more climate-resilient South Ayrshire."
