Council Hosts First South Ayrshire Schools Equalities Conference
South Ayrshire Council, in collaboration with Education Scotland, West of Scotland Development Education Centre (WOSDEC) and University of the West of Scotland (UWS) hosted their first ever Equalities Conference for schools.
The event consisted of a series of workshop focussing on celebrating cultures, challenging discrimination and giving due consideration to children's rights.
Equalities groups from 30 schools across South Ayrshire participated in the event, including Pupil Voice Groups, Anti-Racist Groups, Equality Groups and Anti -Bullying Groups.
Councillor William Grant, South Ayrshire Council's Policy Lead for Education and Lifelong Learning, said: "It's fantastic to see so many schools get involved and support this event which is the first of its kind in South Ayrshire. These young people are helping to strive for change, make a difference, and shape a future which ensures equality for everyone. I have no doubt that this event will have helped to inspire many people, and everyone involved should be extremely proud of themselves."
