Council Employee Wins Award for Best Apprentice in the UK

Property Maintenance apprentice, Aidan Ingram, received the award for Best Apprentice in the UK under the '3rd Year Award' category at the Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) National Building and Housing Apprentice of the Year Awards 2026.
The event, which took place during Scottish Apprenticeship Week, was held at the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow. The awards consisted of 5 categories including 1st Year Award, 2nd Year Award, 3rd Year Award, 4th Year Award and Non-Trade/Professional Award.
The awards showcased apprentices who have made their mark in the sector and have supported the local community.
Starting his role as a Craft Apprentice Plumber in August 2022, Aidan is set to complete his apprenticeship in August this year where he will then progress into his full-time role as a Multiskilled Plumber.
Aidan Ingram, Craft Apprentice Plumber, said: "I'm delighted to have won this award. During my apprenticeship with South Ayrshire Council, I've gained many invaluable skills and experiences and really enjoy working with the Property Maintenance team. I'm looking forward to completing my apprenticeship this year and becoming a fully qualified Multiskilled Plumber."
Kenny Dalrymple, Assistant Director of Housing and Operations at South Ayrshire Council said: "This is a fantastic and very well-deserved achievement for Aidan and is a great success story for our Property Maintenance team. The award is testament to the team's effort in guiding and supporting our apprentices as they move through their career and to Aidan's hard work and dedication in his role."
If you are interested in an apprenticeship within the Property Maintenance team at South Ayrshire Council, applications for this year's intake will become available from April 2026.
