South Ayrshire Provost Iain Campbell welcomed representatives from two charities to Ayr's County Buildings to present donations on behalf of South Ayrshire Council.
Ayrshire Baby Loss Support and The Ayrshire Hospice both received a donation of £8,500 from one of the Council's charitable schemes.
Ayrshire Baby Loss Support provides support to bereaved parents, families and anyone affected by baby loss. The charity prides itself in hosting regular in-person support meetings, remembrance services including memorial trees and wildflower seed packs, fundraising events and a safe space for individuals to talk about their loss.
The Ayrshire Hospice has become a vital part of palliative care in Ayrshire. They strive to enhance the quality of remaining life for those suffering from any life-limiting illness including cancer, neurological conditions, end stage heart failure and lung disease, as well as to support families and carers facing the loss of a loved one.
South Ayrshire Provost, Iain Campbell said: "Ayrshire Baby Loss Support and The Ayrshire Hospice provide invaluable support to the people of South Ayrshire. It is an honour to present these donations on behalf of South Ayrshire Council, and I hope these funds continue to support the fantastic work that both charities carry out every single day."
Councillor Bob Shields, South Ayrshire Council's Policy Lead for Planning and Regulatory Services said: "I'm delighted we've been able to donate funds to these two excellent charities and support the incredible work they carry out within our local communities."
Alison McNeil, a representative from Ayrshire Baby Loss charity said: "We support parents and families who have lost a baby at any stage by providing counselling and regular support meetings. We are also proud to work closely with the charity Simba which provides parents with memory boxes so that no parent leaves the hospital without one. This kind donation will go a long way to supporting the activities we do and will allow us to reach more families across Ayrshire."
Tracy Flynn, Ayrshire Hospice Chief Executive, said: "I wish to take this opportunity to thank South Ayrshire Council for their continued support of our hospice. This money received through their charitable donation scheme will contribute to the care and services we continue to deliver to our patients and their families across Ayrshire and Arran. Having the council's continuing support it very much appreciated."
