Careers Event Success at Maybole Community Campus

Careers Event

Published: 1 June 2026

Over 200 pupils from South Ayrshire schools located in the Carrick cluster attended a careers event recently held at Maybole Community Campus.

The event, organised by South Ayrshire Council and supported by Developing the Young Workforce Ayrshire, saw pupils from 8 primary schools including Minishant, Kirkmichael, Straiton, Crosshill, Maidens, Fisherton, Culzean and St Cuthberts, and 1 secondary school, Carrick Academy, come together to speak with employers and find out more about prospective career paths which they may wish to consider in their future.

15 employers attended the event and provided young people with an insight into the skills and qualifications required to work in a particular sector or industry, whilst also providing information on the various roles and responsibilities available. This was the first time a careers event with all schools in the cluster was held and was attended by employers from a variety of different sectors, including the emergency services, hospitality, engineering and sport.

Andrew Hislop, Head Teacher at Kirkmichael Primary School and Straiton Primary School said: "It's been fantastic to see all schools within the Carrick cluster come together and support each other in the planning, organisation and delivery of a successful careers event. Opportunities like this are invaluable for our young people in shaping their future career choices and I have no doubt this will be the first of many more to come."
