Barassie Primary - Frooglesprot

Published: 28 October 2025

Barassie Primary School recently announced the launch of their brand-new picture book, created with the support of local author Lorraine Johnston. The official launch event took place in the school's library on Friday 24 October.

Children's author, Lorraine, collaborated with the school's staff and pupils to create and launch the book named 'Who or What is Frooglesprot?'.

The book has been thoughtfully illustrated by the school's Primary 7 pupils who were given illustration notes from the author to create unique artwork that would help bring the story to life.

'Who or What is Frooglesprot?' is aimed at younger children and takes readers on an imaginative journey through playful scenarios, while gently exploring the school's five core values: Ambition, Creativity, Honesty, Kindness, and Respect.

The book can be purchased from the school directly, or online here with all funds raised going back into projects that will support pupils within the school.

South Ayrshire Council's Policy Lead for Education and Lifelong Learning, Councillor William Grant, said: "This is a fantastic achievement for Barassie Primary School. The process of publishing their very own picture book has enabled the pupils to develop invaluable creative skills, use their imagination, and encounter new experiences.

"I would like to congratulate everyone involved in the collaboration of this project and I wish 'Who or What is Frooglesprot?'every success."
