Ayrshire Roads Alliance continues to deliver for South Ayrshire

NEWS UPDATED

Issued 26 June 2026

The Ayrshire Roads Alliance (ARA) has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering high‑quality roads and transportation services across South Ayrshire, despite the significant financial pressures facing local government.

The newly published 2026-2027 Service Plan highlights how ARA continues to protect frontline services, improve critical infrastructure, and secure unprecedented levels of external investment.

ARA has secured a staggering £21.8 million in confirmed external funding for South Ayrshire in 2026/27 alone—its highest ever level of investment. This includes £15 million for the redevelopment of Burns Statue Square, £4 million for Active Travel improvements and well over £1 million for the Ayrshire Growth Deal Transport Appraisal.

The service continues to invest in projects that improve safety, resilience, and the overall condition of South Ayrshire's transport network. The plan says that £2.65 million has been earmarkedfor carriageway and footway resurfacing, over £400k for street lighting upgrades and nearly £350k for major bridge works.

Over £400k will be spent on a climate change adaptation project at St Ninians Park in Prestwick. In partnership with Scottish Water, works will take place to reduce flooding to protect home owners and businesses.

Councillor Alec Clark, Depute Leader and Commercial / Operational Services Policy Lead for South Ayrshire Council said: "Despite the continuing financial squeeze, ARA continues to deliver for South Ayrshire. There are record levels of external investment, and this in turn is driving innovation, improving infrastructure, and protecting frontline services. Our 2026-27 Service Plan demonstrates that ARA is committed to supporting South Ayrshire's communities, economy, and the environment."
