Official Opening of the new Prestwick Library
The official opening of the new Prestwick Library took place on Wednesday 3 June 2026.
To mark the occasion, there was a ribbon-cutting ceremony with primary 4 pupils from Kingcase Primary School, Prestwick Community Council, South Ayrshire Council Elected Members, and Libraries Staff. An extensive programme of renovation works to modernise the building was led by Property Services, including new windows, wiring, lighting, carpeting, and overall modernisation.
The facility continues to offer a vibrant programme of events, including author talks, reading groups, craft sessions, and engaging activities for children and families - making it a welcoming hub for learning, creativity, and connection.
South Ayrshire Council's Depute Leader and Policy Lead for Commercial/Operational Services Councillor Alec Clark, said: "The library is at the heart of the vibrant Prestwick community, and I am delighted to see the results of the renovation and to hear first-hand the overwhelmingly positive feedback from customers. This project is part of the ongoing South Ayrshire Council support and funding of Libraries and Culture."
"The modernisation of this vital public resource will secure the future of Prestwick Library for years to come and ensure it continues to provide a first-class service. Thanks to all those who worked tirelessly to ensure minimal closure time and a relaunched library to be proud of."
