South Ayrshire Achieves High Performance in School Leaver Destination Report

NEWS UPDATED

South Ayrshire Council has been placed above the national average in Scotland for positive school leaver destinations for yet another year.

The School Leaver Destination Report (SLDR) stated that 97.3% of young people in South Ayrshire have a positive destination to progress to upon leaving school, compared to the national average of 95.7%.

A key priority is to ensure that our children and young people succeed in achieving their goals by supporting education and essential life skills. This is delivered using a variety of methods, tailored to the needs of each individual young person.

South Ayrshire Council's Policy Lead for Education and Lifelong Learning, Councillor William Grant, said: "I'd firstly like to thank our Education and Thriving Communities - Employability staff for their hard work and commitment to our young people to ensure that guidance and support is at hand at every stage of the educational journey. It is not an easy decision for young people to choose what direction they want to go in life, and for many, going into further education is not for them. It's therefore crucial that these individuals recognise their potential via other routes and everyone has the opportunity to develop in their chosen path. Our performance outlined in this report is fantastic."

South Ayrshire Council's Policy Lead for Leisure and Community Services, Councillor Chris Cullen, said: "The result of this report highlights the number of positive pathways available to young people nowadays and I'm delighted that our staff continue to work in partnership with Ayrshire College and Skills Development Scotland to help individuals identify these. By encouraging everyone to follow their own passions and goals, success can be achieved."
