Request additional green bin uplift

Health-Related Waste Information

This service is available to households who are unable to manage with a 240 litre 3 weekly general waste collection due to the volume of health-related waste.  This excess waste will include waste arising from residents such as bed pans, incontinence pads, catheters, colostomy bags, urine containers, dialysis packaging that cannot be recycled or disposable nappies.

This service provides you with a fortnightly uplift of your general (Green) waste bin, in addition to your scheduled 3-weekly collections. Residents who are approved will receive an additional collection calendar confirming their additional collection dates.

Supporting Evidence

Medical documentation must be provided confirming the medical conditions listed in your application, or we will be unable to process your application. This can include:

  • Letters you have already received from the hospital/GP detailing your condition. (Please do not contact your GP to ask for an additional letter as we have been advised GP's will not provide this)
  • Delivery notes from the NHS showing items delivered.
  • 3 Months' worth of Personal receipts of items you have purchased on your own.  (please note 3 months' worth of recent receipts must be supplied)

If you are applying for additional collections as you have two children between 0-4 in disposable nappies, please provide proof of DOB and address:

Date of Birth

  • Birth certificate.
  • Passport.

AND

Proof of address

  • Child Benefit Award Letter.
  • Hospital/GP/Dentist appointment letters.

Qualifying for this service

Qualifying for this service is based on householders complying fully with South Ayrshire Councils refuse and recycling collection system, and correctly utilising all bins provided (including food-waste). We will undertake spot checks of bins presented for collection to ensure ongoing compliance, and recyclable items found in your general waste bin will result in your bin not being collected and may result in residents being removed from this additional service.

Did you know that approximately 35% of general waste is food waste.  By using your weekly food waste service you could create additional space in your green bin.
