Councillors to consider proposed Ayr Parking Strategy
Published 05 December 2025
At South Ayrshire Council's meeting on Thursday 11 December, councillors will consider a range of proposed changes to parking across Ayr.
The Ayr Parking Strategy (2025) aims to modernise the town's on and off-street parking arrangements.
Some of the proposed changes include revised residents' parking schemes; introduction of seasonal charging (April-September) for Esplanade parking; restructuring of parking tariffs; and rationalisation of pay and display (P&D) charging hours.
Maps detailing the proposed affected areas can be found here along with a series of FAQs. Affected residents will also receive direct correspondence with further information.

Councillor Alec Clark, South Ayrshire Council's Depute Leader, and Policy Lead for Commercial/ Operational Services said: "As a Council, we are committed to creating a parking system that supports a thriving and accessible town centre. These proposed changes are about modernising how we manage parking, aiming to make it fairer, easier to understand and more sustainable in the long term."
Councillor Bob Shields, South Ayrshire Council's Policy Lead for Planning and Regulatory
Services said: "We understand that parking in Ayr Town Centre has a real impact on daily life for residents and visitors, so the proposals have been shaped by previous feedback to support the needs of everyone who uses Ayr's roads. This approach will allow us to manage parking more effectively and support Ayr's long-term growth."
