South Ayrshire's Festive Safety Campaign Set to Launch

As the countdown to the festive period officially begins, South Ayrshire's annual Festive Safety initiative will commence on Saturday 29 November.

The multi-agency initiative will run each weekend until Saturday 28 December and involves frontline service delivery from South Ayrshire Council - Thriving Communities; Police Scotland; South Carrick First Responders; Main Event People Ltd; and Ayr and Prestwick Street Pastors. This partnership aims to ensure the safety of visitors to Ayr and Prestwick town centres over the festive period.

Once again, a mobile service for those who may need assistance while out at night will be provided by the Ayr and Prestwick Street Pastors, and First Aid will also be available, if required, from the South Carrick First Responders.  

South Ayrshire Council's Policy Lead for Health and Social Care, Councillor Hugh Hunter, said: "Community safety is at the heart of everything we do. There are many popular pubs and clubs in Ayr and Prestwick and this annual initiative ensures that residents and visitors can safely enjoy themselves over the festive period. I would like to thank all of the partner agencies involved, who continue to work tirelessly in order to make this possible."

Chief Inspector Stephen McGrath, Chair of the Community Safety Partnership, said: "We want everyone to enjoy the festive period and individuals' safety is paramount. To help those visiting pubs and clubs get home, taxi marshals will once again be located at the Boswell Park Taxi Rank in Ayr on Saturday nights into early Sunday mornings. Additional patrols will be in place in both towns by Police Scotland, and all agency partners will work closely with the South Ayrshire CCTV monitoring station to provide a service which is as efficient as possible."
