South Ayrshire Council makes £10,000 donation to charities

Recycling of Metal Scheme

South Ayrshire Council's Provost, Iain Campbell, welcomed charity representatives from Young Lives vs Cancer and Brain Tumour Research to County Buildings in Ayr to present donations on behalf of South Ayrshire Council.

Each charity received a donation of £5000 from one of the Council's charitable schemes.

Young Lives vs Cancer provides tailored support to children and young people with cancer, and their families. The charity prides themselves on making sure the voices of children, young people and families are heard and their unique needs understood, so they can get the right care and support at the right time.

Brain Tumour Research is the leading voice of the brain tumour community and the only national charity focused on finding a cure for all types of brain tumours. The charity's mission is to increase the national investment in research into brain tumours each year and to fundraise to create a network of seven sustainable Brain Tumour Research Centres of Excellence across the UK.

South Ayrshire Council's Provost, Iain Campbell, said: "It's an honour to present these donations on behalf of the Council to two wonderful charities. These charities provide invaluable support to members of our community, and I hope these funds will support both Young Lives vs Cancer and Brain Tumour Research to reach more people and continue the fantastic work they do."

Councillor Bob Shields, South Ayrshire Council's Policy Lead for Planning and Regulatory Services said: "I'm delighted that we have been able to make donations again this year to two incredible charities. Young Lives vs Cancer and Brain Tumour Research work tirelessly to make a difference here in South Ayrshire and we're proud to support their efforts."

Claire Cobban, Young Lives vs Cancer Fundraising Engagement Manager for South and West Scotland said: "From the moment of diagnosis, Young Lives vs Cancer's specialist social workers provide day-to-day support for each child, young person and family. Last year we supported 566 children and young people and their families in Scotland, including 35 in Ayrshire.

"We rely on donations to fund our vital work and so we can't thank South Ayrshire Council enough for their generous donation. This support means Young Lives vs Cancer will be able to help even more young people with cancer to get the right support when they need it most."

Ashley McWilliams, Community Development Manager for Brain Tumour Research said: "We are incredibly grateful for this generous donation. Support like this is vital in helping us drive forward the pioneering research taking place across the UK, including right here in Scotland, where so many families are affected by brain tumours.

"Every contribution brings us closer to finding a cure and offers real hope to patients and their loved ones. Thank you for standing with us in the fight to defeat this devastating disease."
