South Ayrshire pupils selected for Scottish Cycling "Future Leaders" Programme
Three South Ayrshire pupils have recently been selected to take part in the inaugural Scottish Cycling Future Leaders Programme - a two-year leadership development initiative for aspiring young cyclists.
The Future Leaders Programme, launched by Scottish Cycling in 2025, is designed to inspire, train, and empower people aged 14-21 who are passionate about cycling. Ben Raleigh and Logan Peddie from Prestwick Academy, and Tyler Muir from Girvan Academy are part of only 12 young people who earned their places in the nationwide programme.
Over the next two years, Ben, Logan and Tyler will attend leadership workshops, receive mentorship from industry professionals, volunteer at events, and work towards qualifications - all aimed at developing their skills both on and off the bike. They have already been active in promoting cycling locally, from volunteering at community cycling sessions to encouraging their peers to get involved in the sport.
The Council's Thriving Communities service, through their Active Schools and Community Sport Hubs programme, have been working to support and nurture young talent in sports like cycling. This collaboration helped identify and encourage candidates for the Future Leaders Programme. The selected trio will now join their peers from across Scotland in training sessions and projects that not only build personal leadership competencies but also aim to shape the future of cycling at the grassroots level.
South Ayrshire Council's Policy Lead for Leisure and Community Services, Councillor Chris Cullen, said: "It's great to see three of our young people stepping up to the national stage through Scottish Cycling's Future Leaders Programme. Ben, Logan, and Tyler have already shown real commitment to cycling in South Ayrshire and this opportunity will help them develop their leadership skills even further. We're proud of what they've achieved so far and look forward to seeing how they use their experience to inspire others and promote cycling locally."
