Drowning Prevention Week 2025 (14-21 June)

DPW 2025

Drowning Prevention Week takes place from 14 June - 21 June and is one of the largest water safety campaigns across the UK and Ireland.

With summer now here, many will be making plans to visit beaches, pools, rivers and lochs so it's important that we all know how to stay safe and familiarise ourselves with The Water Safety Code which can be found here.

At South Ayrshire Council, we are committed to empowering individuals with essential life skills. To do this, we engage with 2600 children each week and have many initiatives to support this including:

·        Providing a fully inclusive pathway into the South Ayrshire Swim Team and Ayr Dive Club

·        Running GP Referral swim classes

·        Delivering comprehensive 10-week swimming programmes for Primary School aged children

·        Supporting nursery aged children in basic core aquatic skills

·        1-1 swimming classes

·        Rookie lifeguard courses

·        Swimming teacher training

Leader of South Ayrshire Council, Councillor Brian Connolly said: "Each life lost to accidental drowning is a preventable tragedy and we must ensure that people are informed of the actions they can take in an emergency to save lives. National campaigns such as Drowning Prevention Week are vital for sharing extensive resources to ensure everyone can enjoy water safely."
