South Ayrshire gets ready to Spring Clean

South Ayrshire Council are proud to be supporting Keep Scotland Beautiful's annual 'Spring Clean' initiative.
Friday 21 March marks the launch of this year's campaign, which will run until Monday 21 April, providing an opportunity for everyone to get involved in the effort to tackle issues with litter in our local areas. From simply picking up litter on a walk, to joining an organised event, there are lots of ways to make a positive difference.
To help support the invaluable efforts of volunteer litter pickers across South Ayrshire during the Spring Clean campaign, our Waste Management team can supply groups or individuals with litter pickers and sacks, and can collect and dispose of filled bags. South Ayrshire Council Portfolio Holder for Buildings, Housing and Environment, Councillor Martin Kilbride said: "I'm pleased that we're supporting Keep Scotland Beautiful's Spring Clean once again this year. It's an important initiative which encourages everyone to play a part in looking after our environment, which is crucial for us and future generations.
"Litter not only spoils the landscape but also impacts wildlife and habitats, which in turn affects ecosystems, so it can have a real impact on the environment. There are lots of ways to get involved in the Spring Clean, including organised litter picks, and it's also a great excuse to get outdoors and meet new people.
"I'd also like to take this opportunity to once again thank all of the volunteers and community groups who work throughout the year to help with litter picks across South Ayrshire."
Barry Fisher, Chief Executive at Keep Scotland Beautiful, said: "Every year Spring Clean presents a wonderful opportunity for people to get outside, pick up some litter and make a difference in their local community. We know from our previous work in South Ayrshire that people are not only passionate about litter and its impact on the environment but want to get involved and take action. We're aiming to make this year's Spring Clean the biggest and best yet, and it's fantastic to know that once again people all over South Ayrshire will be playing their part, with great support from the council, to keep Scotland beautiful."
