South Ayrshire Libraries Donations Policy

We appreciate the generosity of our customers who wish to donate books to the South Ayrshire Libraries. To help you in your decision to donate books the following is our current donation guidelines.

We will accept:

• fiction
• adult non-fiction - cookery books, gardening, biographies

We can only accept donations if:

• quantities are manageable for our staff to service and add to the catalogue
• there is the appropriate level of space
• assistants-in-charge agree that the book is appropriate and desirable

Books must be:

• in excellent condition and published within 2 years
• the genre is of particular interest to the library at the time of donation

We will not accept any donations which are:

• CDs, DVDs, VHS, video games, etc
• books without an ISBN number
• book-sets and parts of sets that were originally sold as single items
• oversized books
• novelty books that use batteries or that are labelled 'unsuitable for children under 3' etc
• foreign language titles where the publisher cannot be verified as being reputable, or for languages South Ayrshire Libraries do not usually stock

Any items donated become part of the South Ayrshire Libraries stock and will be dealt with, managed, and disposed of where necessary, as part of South Ayrshire Libraries overall Stock Management processes.

Specialised Donations

Books of local interest and of specialised historical interest are dealt out with the parameters of this policy and should be dealt with by contacting us in writing at:
