Provost attends Remembrance Ceremony at Fisherton Cemetery, Dunure with Canadian Armed Forces

As part of this year's Remembrance services, South Ayrshire Provost, Iain Campbell, visited Fisherton Cemetery for an Act of Remembrance on Monday 11 November.

Canadian Armed Forces attended the service at the cemetery where 14 Canadian airmen from World War II are at rest. RCAF Commander, LGen Eric Kenny, who was visiting the Canadian Armed Forces base at Prestwick, attended the service with Major Samantha Behm, ATF-Prestwick Command.

South Ayrshire Provost, Iain Campbell, said: "It's my privilege and honour to represent South Ayrshire as we remember all those who fought and lost their lives in many conflicts over the years to protect the freedom we know today. This is a really important time of year for us and many others across the globe, as it brings people together to pay our respects and ensure we never forget.

"In South Ayrshire we have strong ties with the Canadian Armed Forces due to their base being at Prestwick Airport but this tie goes further back to the Newfoundland Regiment being based in Ayr during World War 1 before going to the Western Front.  This made today's ceremony even more poignant to attend in their presence as they remember their fallen airmen who are buried here at Fisherton Cemetery. "

Following the service, Provost Campbell then joined pupils and staff at Fisherton Primary School as they carried out their Act of Remembrance.
