Nominations for the 2025 Robert Burns Humanitarian Award (RBHA) are now open!
We're seeking to spotlight exceptional individuals and groups who dedicate themselves to advancing human rights and driving social transformation.
Inspired by Scotland's beloved poet, Robert Burns, this prestigious award honours those who extend a helping hand even in the most challenging circumstances, fostering positive change and uplifting lives.
Supported by Destination South Ayrshire, this award holds deep significance. The winner is also honoured with the equivalent of 1759 guineas, representing the year of Burns' birth and the currency of his era, now valued at £1,800.
The 2024 title was awarded to Gail Penfold, who has been an avid volunteer, fundraiser, and campaigner in her community in the London Borough of Waltham Forest for five decades.
The stage is now set for nominations for the 2025 award!
Councillor Martin Dowey, Chair of the RBHA judging panel and Leader of South Ayrshire Council, said: "Robert Burns was a true humanitarian, and we seek individuals who embody his ethos. We receive nominations from around the world, but what they all share is a deep commitment to human rights and a drive to effect social change. The nominee doesn't have to be someone you know personally; it could be someone whose efforts you admire. What's crucial is that we recognise and celebrate their contributions to improving the lives of others, so please get involved and nominate."
Nominations can be made at https://www.south-ayrshire.gov.uk/robert-burns-award starting Monday 19 August and will close at 4pm on Friday 27 September. The 2025 RBHA winner will be announced during a special Burns Night ceremony on 25 January 2025.
This will be the 24th year the Award has run and 266 years (in 2025) since the birth of Robert Burns.
