Airshow weekend fun set to continue with Sunday Funday in Ayr Town Centre!
A fantastic variety of free, fun activities will be set up across Ayr Town Centre for families to enjoy on Sunday 8 September.
The International Ayr Show - Festival of Flight will be an unmissable, action-packed weekend! The hugely popular event will return to Ayr shore front from Friday 6 - Saturday 7 September 2024, with exciting aerial displays, and fabulous family entertainment in the Festival Village on the Low Green.
But the weekend doesn't need to end there! Why not continue the fun and come along to our Sunday Funday on Sunday 8 September? Entertainment for the whole family will be spread out across multiple venues within Ayr Town Centre, so there's plenty to keep the kids occupied throughout the day.
At Ayr Central from 12:00pm-4:00pm there will be a range of family friendly crafting activities where children can make their very own aviation themed crafts, working with creative clay, paper craft, and more. There will also be a Play-Doh play area and an airport play area to get their imaginations going!
A selection of aviation themed films which have been curated by the Ayr Film Society will be showing all day at Ayr Town Hall, catering to all age groups. From 1:30pm-3:50pm, the family comedy Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines, will be shown, followed by the family drama, Paper Planes, from 4:15pm-5:50pm. Finally, the drama thriller, Sully: Miracle on the Hudson, will play from 7:00pm-8:40pm.
At The Cutty Sark Centre, you'll find a farmers' market from 9:00am-2:00pm, and from 12:00pm-4.00pm you can experience for yourself what it's like to fly under the Erskine bridge in a Cessna light aircraft or take off from any airport across the globe with the Glasgow Science Centre Flight Simulators!
The Glasgow Science Centre will also be bringing the Powering the Future on Tour exhibition to The Cutty Sark Centre, with interactive hands-on exhibits where you can explore sustainable energy options for the future - from how we can produce electricity and fuels to how we can be smarter with our use of energy.
Also courtesy of The Glasgow Science Centre, BodyWorks will be on tour in The Grain Exchange. This experience will allow you to explore endurance, strength, agility, speed and coordination through a range of zoned exhibits.
The Grain Exchange will also host an exhibition with murals of Tom Gilfillan taken from the main lounge of Orangefield House, Prestwick Airport and photographic images from our local history collection over the festival weekend. There will be another opportunity to visit on Sunday 8 September.
South Ayrshire Council's Portfolio Holder for Tourism, Culture and Rural Affairs, Councillor Alec Clark, said: "Like so many people, I'm really looking forward to the airshow festival returning to Ayr this September. The entertainment will continue through the whole weekend with a full schedule of free activities for families on the Sunday. If you're in the area, make sure you take advantage of the free entertainment in Ayr Town Centre."
South Ayrshire Council's Portfolio Holder for Sport and Leisure, Councillor Brian Connolly, said: "We're excited to announce the activities taking place throughout Ayr Town Centre on Sunday 8 September.
