Girvan Academy Teacher Wins Top Prizes at the Scottish Cyber Awards 2022
A teacher from Girvan Academy has scooped not one, but two Scottish Cyber Awards.
The Scottish Cyber Awards recognises those working in the cyber sector who go above and beyond to make a positive impact to Scotland's cyber security.
The Awards brought over 250 people together to celebrate the innovative individuals and organisations who make a difference to this field.
Among the winners was Principal Teacher of Computing Science and Business at Girvan Academy, Gareth Rae, who took home two national awards - first prize in the Cyber Security Educator category and the Champion of Champions Award.
Gareth said: "I'm delighted to have been nominated, never mind having won these awards. This would not have been possible without the fantastic support I've received from my colleagues at Girvan Academy and South Ayrshire Council.
"Cyber security is incredibly important in today's society and is one of the leading sectors in Scotland and across the world. I'm passionate about this sector and I'm extremely grateful to be able to share my knowledge with the pupils who one day, may play a key role in the industry."
South Ayrshire Council's Portfolio Holder for Education, Councillor Stephen Ferry, said: "This is a fantastic achievement and very well deserved. Gareth's enthusiasm ensures our young people are receiving the best tuition, which will make a positive difference to the cyber security industry in years to come."
