Provost marks Gandhi's birthday at special event in Ayr Town Hall
South Ayrshire Provost, Iain Campbell, recently took part in a garlanding event at Ayr Town Hall to mark the 153rd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
Provost Campbell was joined by Indian Consul General, Bijay Selvaraj and Leader of South Ayrshire Council, Councillor Martin Dowey for the event.
The Provost and Consul General together placed the celebratory garland over the rare bronze statue that stands proudly in the Town Hall's main foyer.
The statue was gifted to South Ayrshire by the Indian Government in September 2019 and is one of only 10 in the world.
Provost Campbell said: "It was a pleasure to be part of the garlanding ceremony and take a moment to remember Mahatma Gandhi and all that he stood for.
"The International Day of Non-Violence is observed each year on Gandhi's birthday and the statue is a constant reminder of the importance of promoting peace in South Ayrshire."
