South Ayrshire Active Schools Cross-Country Event 2022

Almost 400 pupils from 17 schools across South Ayrshire took part in our Active Schools' Cross-Country event on Wednesday 8 June - the biggest event in this year's Competitive Sport line-up. 

After a two-year absence, our Active Schools team welcomed schools back to Competitive Sport for a series of exciting events throughout May and June 2022. Over 700 pupils from 33 schools took part in a range of activities, including gymnastics, tennis, netball, and athletics competitions.

At the Cross-Country event, the overall winners in each category were:

·       Straiton Primary School- Primary School, Small

·       Heathfield Primary School- Primary School, Large

·       Kyle Academy- Secondary School

Councillor Brian Connolly, South Ayrshire Council's Portfolio Holder for Sport and Leisure, said: 'It has been brilliant to finally welcome schools back to our competitive sport events.  Schools have engaged well with the competition opportunities on offer this spring, and we're really looking forward to a busy programme of events in the 2022/23 academic year.

'Well done to all of the pupils who took part in the Cross-Country event, and congratulations to the winning schools!'

Claire Blackadder, Principal Teacher of Physical Education at Kyle Academy said : 'The pupils at Kyle Academy absolutely loved the cross country event at Rozelle this year. From the word "Go" they all worked so hard to get themselves over the finish line and they were absolutely delighted to take home some medals and the overall school prize!'

Emma Carroll, Principal Teacher at Straiton Primary School said: 'Straiton Primary are absolutely delighted to win the overall small school prize at the Cross-Country event at Rozelle. We are very proud of our wee school!'
