Gym at Prestwick Swimming Pool set for expansion

Prestwick pool refurb 2 400 x 400

South Ayrshire Council is set to spend around £300k upgrading the gym at Prestwick Swimming Pool.

The exciting plans will see the existing gym double in size and feature new state-of-the-art exercise equipment. New toilets will also be added as part of the expansion.

The refurbishment works, which are set to begin on Sunday 24 of April, are due to last 16 weeks. If everything runs to schedule, works should be finished towards the end of August.

Due to the nature of the refurbishment and the reconfiguration required, the whole of Prestwick Swimming Pool will need to close for the duration of the works.

To help minimise the impact on customers, swimming lessons will end at Prestwick Pool on Saturday 16 April, but will move to the Citadel Leisure Centre in Ayr and will be available from Sunday 17 April.

All customers with a gold membership for Prestwick Swimming Pool and Troon Swimming Pool, will automatically be upgraded to our platinum membership. This gives them access to all our pools, gyms, and fitness classes at any facility, including the Citadel, for the period of the closure.

Any customers who are unable to travel to other facilities, can have their membership frozen for the duration of the closure. This means they won't pay anything in May, June, July, or August.

Customers who have paid their membership in advance, will automatically have their agreement upgraded to the platinum membership. If a payment freeze is preferable, the duration of the closure period will be added to the end of the membership.

Prestwick Swimming Pool will close completely on Sunday 24 April at 6pm.

Jane Bradley, Assistant Director, People Directorate said: "These refurbishment works will transform the leisure offering for those living in and around Prestwick.

"Unfortunately, we can't achieve this ambition without a full closure of the facility, but we are doing everything we can to lessen the impact on our customers, including offering them an upgrade to their membership."

Staff from Prestwick Pool will be relocated to the Citadel for the period of the closure.
