Scottish Milk and Healthy Snack Scheme (SMHSS)
The Scottish Milk and Healthy Snack Scheme replaced the UK Nursery Milk Scheme in Scotland with effect from 1 August 2021. This scheme is designed to improve the health and wellbeing of children.
Who is eligible-Settings?
All Care Inspectorate registered settings, i.e. Local Authority, Private, Voluntary, Independent (PVI) and Childminders. You do not need to be in partnership with South Ayrshire Council delivering funded ELC to receive payment under this scheme.
Who is eligible - Child?
All preschool children i.e. aged from birth to starting primary one.
What will each child be entitled to receive?
The scheme will fund a daily portion of milk (or approved non-dairy alternative) and healthy snack (fruit or vegetables) for children who spend 2 hours or more in your setting.
How will it work?
All Care Inspectorate registered settings (Local Authority, Private, Voluntary, Independent (PVI) and Childminders) wishing to participate in the scheme must register with South Ayrshire Council to become a member of the scheme.
Registration Process:
All eligible settings will need to register for the scheme. Please contact SA.SMHSS@south-ayrshire.gov.uk
Monitoring and Reporting
Participating settings will be required to keep proof of purchases for audit, monitoring and reporting.
Payment -(Private, Voluntary, Independent (PVI) and Childminders)
Providers will be asked to submit information on anticipated numbers of children attending and payments will be made monthly in advance.
