Closing the Gap - South Ayrshire top of the class for school leavers

South Ayrshire's dedication to ensuring school leavers go on to positive destinations was realised today when Scottish Government figures released today show that we are the best in Scotland.

A massive 98.4% of our young people move on to a positive destination when they leave school. With the Scottish average at 93.3%, this is an outstanding achievement which underlines our commitment to closing the gap for young people by helping them to fulfil their potential.

Councillor William Grant, Portfolio Holder for Children and Young People said: "To hear that we are the best in Scotland when it comes to positive destinations for school leavers really is fantastic news. 

"I'm delighted that, during a year of pandemic, our school leaver destinations top the league table nationally.

 "This outstanding achievement is the result of exceptional dedication and hard work from our Education and Employability and Skills staff. I'm particularly proud of the commitment from our young people, and the partnership working with Skills Development Scotland and Ayrshire College.  All in all, we have gone the extra mile to make a difference to young people in South Ayrshire."
