Falls Prevention

Our Invigor8 classes are designed for those 60 and over to improve mobility, strength and balance and give participants the correct coping strategies should they have a fall to help them get up and build up their confidence.  Participants can take part in the class both seated and standing.

These sessions follow the FaME programme by LaterLifeTraining and cover the 7 components below:

  • Dynamic Endurance Training
  • Dynamic Balance Training
  • Targeted Resistance Training
  • Backward Chaining
  • Functional Floor Activities
  • Adpated Tai Chi
  • Flexibility Training

How do I become involved in the classes?

You can self-refer or be referred to Invigor8 through a voucher scheme by a health or social care professional e.g. doctor, practice nurse, physiotherapist, home care provider.

Invigor8 is suitable for people:

  • Feeling fearful of falls
  • Feeling unstable on their feet
  • Who have had a previous fall
  • With osteoporosis

Exclusion Criteria - People with the following conditions are not suitable to participate in our programme

  • Unstable angina
  • Uncontrolled resting blood pressure
  • Significant drop in blood pressure during exercise
  • Tachycardia >100bpm
  • Unstable or acute heart failure
  • Uncontrolled acute sytemic illness
  • Unable to maintain seated upright position
  • Recent injury through fall without attention
  • Impared cognition such that the patient is unable to follow instructions
  • Place others and themselves at risk

Classes are available throughout South Ayrshire in Ayr, Maybole, Prestwick and Troon.
