'Our Freedom: Then and Now' - New Exhibition Coming to the McKechnie Institute

We're delighted to announce that a new exhibition, 'Our Freedom: Then and Now', will be coming to the McKechnie Institute at the end of the year.
To mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, 'Our Freedom: Then and Now' is a new programme by Future Arts Centres, which is supported by the UK Government through Arts Council England and in partnership with Libraries Connected. The programme aims to encourage communities to reflect upon the end of the Second World War, whilst exploring the key concept of freedom. Across the UK, 60 local communities have been selected to take part in this unique programme, including South Ayrshire Council. Communities will work with artists to develop cultural events, exhibitions and performances that have special connections to the areas.
South Ayrshire Council will be working in partnership with the Girvan and District Great War Project; South Ayrshire writer and performer, Simon Lamb; and Sacred Heart Primary School to create an exhibition which focuses on Girvan and the surrounding area's links to the Second World War.
South Ayrshire Council's Portfolio Holder for Tourism, Culture and Rural Affairs, Councillor Alec Clark, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity to reflect upon South Ayrshire's connections to the Second World War and the exhibition is a fitting tribute to those local young men and women who gave so much for their country in its time of need. I'm delighted that South Ayrshire Council has been selected to participate in this national programme, as the 80th Anniversary is such a significant occasion and it's an honour to be able to be involved in marking this.
"Working with our local communities is incredibly important and the partnership with the Girvan and District Great War Project, Simon Lamb and Sacred Heart Primary School, ensures that this will be a very special exhibition. I look forward to it opening towards the end of the year."
