'Pageant of Ayrshire' Exhibition Comes to Rozelle House

Pageant of Ayrshire

South Ayrshire Council is delighted to announce that a new exhibition, 'Pageant of Ayrshire', will open to the public at Rozelle House Museum and Galleries on Saturday 31 May.

The Pageant of Ayrshire took place at Dam Park, Ayr, in 1934 and was the largest event of its type to be held in a Scottish town at this time, attracting an audience of approximately 92,000. Over 3,000 people from across Ayrshire performed in the week-long event, which saw exciting enactments ranging from the legend of King Coilus; the Battle of Largs in 1263, and the Covenanters; to the life and works of poet Robert Burns.

The exhibition celebrates the Pageant and features specially commissioned work by South Ayrshire writer and performer, Simon Lamb, alongside film footage and costumes from the event. The exhibition will also showcase a book by Roy McLean of Ayr, who created a beautifully illustrated written record of the Pageant.

South Ayrshire Council's Portfolio Holder for Tourism, Culture and Rural Affairs, Councillor Alec Clark, said: "This fantastic exhibition captures the history of the 'Pageant of Ayrshire' in incredible detail. Many residents of South Ayrshire may be unfamiliar with this event, however, it instils a great sense of pride in our local area and I'd encourage everyone to come along."

The exhibition is free to attend and will be open until Sunday 31 August. More information, including opening times, is available on the Destination South Ayrshire website: https://destinationsouthayrshire.co.uk/whats-on/the-pageant-of-ayrshire/
