Reviews - Ayr Grammar Primary School
Following consideration of a range of options for the future use of the current Ayr Academy building, South Ayrshire Council is proposing to transform the site into a new home for Ayr
Grammar Primary School, along with new Early Learning and Childcare Provision and Community Facilities. The Ayr Academy site will become vacant after completion of the new Ayr Academy
Learning Campus at the Craigie Estate.
A formal consultation exercise was carried out in 2016, which included children, staff, parents and the wider community in a series of workshops and a public meeting. The consultation
concluded in October 2016, indicating significant support for the proposals and the Council has now agreed to proceed with the project.
The three elements of the project – the primary school, the early years provision and the community facilities - will form an educational campus that will continue a tradition of
learning and teaching on the site that stretches back to the 13th century. The design of the new campus will aim to transform the historically significant buildings into a
state-of-the-art facility that reflects the aspirations of 21st century education and the important role that it will play within the community. The existing buildings will be partially
demolished, refurbished, altered and extended to give a new lease of life to the buildings and ensure the tradition of learning and teaching on the site continues well into the future.
