Reviews - Ayr Grammar Primary School
The project to transform the old Ayr Academy into the new Ayr Grammar Primary School is progressing well and
designs have been developed, which take into account views gathered during consultations with children, staff
and parents during 2017.
The new facility will include the school, a new early years centre and community facilities, and will
continue a tradition of learning and teaching on the site that stretches back to the 13th century. The
proposals involve demolishing some of the poorer quality buildings to make space for playground, external
teaching and car parking and the remaining historic buildings will be refurbished, and remodelled to create
inspiring spaces for teaching and socialising and community use.
A new Archive and Registration Centre will also be included on the site but will be a separate building,
independent from the school and community facilities.
The project will be delivered through South West Hub, who have appointed Morrison Construction as their
Tier 1 contractor, and a full design team led by BDP Architects. Morrison and the design team have been
working with Council representatives to develop the design proposals.
Planning and Listed Buildings Consents have been granted for the project and work on site has commenced with demolition of the 1930s extensions to the rear of the main building. The whole project is expected to be complete in summer 2020.
