RYA Training Courses

Gain recognised water-based Royal Yachting Association qualifications at the Citadel Leisure Centre, Ayr.

Our courses range from VHF Marine Radio and Yachtmaster Theory.

Our courses are for the over 16s but we will consider younger if the principle agrees it to be suitable.

Discounts will be given for bookings of two persons or more.

Courses

Each course runs 10am-4pm and successful candidates receive recognised RYA certification.

Course Dates

RYA Short Range Radio Course

One day land-based course (With same day early evening exam) giving you the minimum qualification required by law to control the operation of VHF and VHF Digital Selective Calling equipment. The course is a total of 10 hours in length. You will be given 3 hours of homework prior to the course which must be completed followed by classroom based teaching which will last 7 hours. Maximum 8 candidates per class. Costs - £85 per person for training only. Please note that there is an additional cost of £60 per person for RYA Certification / Assessor Fees. This fee is payable direct to RYA which the assessor will collect on day of exam by either cheque or debit card payment.

RYA Online Short Range Radio Course

This Online distance learning course, can be undertaken at the candidates own pace in the comfort of their own home. You can install the course on your computer and once downloaded onto the computer/laptop you no longer need an internet connection. Once successfully completed, you will download a completion certificate and then contact us for direct classroom assessment. Once booked on you will receive a VHF Handbook and log in details for the interactive course. The course will take around 8-10 hours to complete.

The cost of the Online course is £60 per person. Please note that there is an additional cost of £60 per person for RYA Certification / Assessor Fees. This fee is payable direct to RYA which the assessor will collect on day of exam by either cheque or debit card payment.

RYA Essential Navigation

Two day classroom course introducing navigation and safety awareness for new or inexperienced skippers and crew and those wanting to refresh their skills. £150 per person.

RYA Day Skipper Theory

An intensive five day land-based course designed for aspiring skippers with some yachting experience and basic navigation and sailing skills. Experience being in charge, taking credit when it all goes well – and being responsible when it doesn’t. £275 per person

RYA Yacht Master/Coastal Theory

Advanced six day land-based course on skippering techniques for those with considerable knowledge of sailing and navigation. Skipper more challenging passages and learn more about passage planning, pilotage by day and night, boat handling, safety and emergency situations. £350 per person.

The Citadel Leisure Centre in Ayr is a Royal Yachting Association Recognised Training Centre.

RYA Online Short Range Radio Course privacy notice

To enable access to your online course we need to share some of your personal data with the RYA via your user profile in www.ryainteractive.org. This learning management website is hosted and maintained by a third party called Learning Pool, who will not use your personal information for any reason other than enabling your course.

Your name and email address will be entered on www.ryainteractive.org in order to create your user account. On your first access to the site, you will be asked to enter your address and date of birth. You will have access to the site for one year in order to complete your online course. During this period, your personal information will be held on the website by Learning Pool and be available to this training centre and the RYA for the purpose of managing your course.

Instructional support will be provided by this training centre for a period of 2 months from the date of your course booking.

On completion of your course, your name, email, date of birth and address will be transferred to the RYA's central database for the purpose of recording details of the course and any certification you gain as a result of it. This information allows the RYA to record your certification, to update any records they may already hold about you or your qualifications and to verify your certificate if required.

After one year from the date of your enrolment on a course, your user account will be removed from www.ryainteractive.org.

Full details of how the RYA will deal with your personal information will be displayed when you first access www.ryainteractive.org.

For the duration of your access to the site, your data will be held in accordance with the RYA Interactive Data Policy, Terms and Conditions.

If you receive a digital certificate downloaded from the RYA Interactive site on completion of your course, your name, address, date of birth and certificate details will be transferred to the RYA database and held in accordance with the RYA’s Privacy Policy.
