The Victorians created Newton Park as a place of recreation for surrounding residents. It is now known world-wide as the venue for the Bowling Championships. In 2004 World Bowling Championships were held here.
Newton Park also offers a well equipped play area, large expanse of open space for children to play safely and a boating pond, which is often the home to a brood of ducklings or cygnets in the spring time
