Smiles all round as young people show their certificates

It was an afternoon of celebration in Maybole recently as young people came together to highlight their achievements as part of the Year of Young People.

Organised by South Ayrshire Council the event was an opportunity for around 50 young people from Maybole and North Carrick to pick up a number of awards.

To recognise their achievements for volunteering, theatre and drama and for activities like indoor climbing and skiing, Hi 5, Dynamic Youth and Saltire awards were handed out to the well deserving youngsters.

As well as the awards ceremony, the young people also took part in a number of workshops including cookery and craft making, before the event ended with a roller disco.

Councillor William Grant, Children and Young People Portfolio Holder for South Ayrshire Council said: "I would like to congratulate all the young people for their achievements and thank the organisers for giving them the opportunity to shine.

"We want our young people to have the confidence to succeed so it's important to recognise their achievements both inside and outside the classroom."

The event was organised by South Ayrshire Council's Community Learning and Development Service and was made possible when the Maybole and North Carrick Youth Forum received PAR2 Participatory Funding.
