More than 300 people competed in 2016
Golfers from across the UK are being invited to take part in the Troon Golf Weekender 2017. Now in its 57th year, the competition provides a serious challenge for amateur golfers, with a broad range of events on offer for people of different abilities.
Troon Golf Weekender is played between Darley, Lochgreen, and Fullarton Golf Courses from Friday 25 – Sunday 27 August. Competitors are given the opportunity to play on links courses, while competing for a number of historic trophies and generous prize funds.
There are five different competitions across the weekend, including the showcase Mills Quaich & Troon Rosebowl Tournament, with £3,500 prize money up for grabs across all events including the Open Stableford Competition, Charles Buchanan Veteran Shield, Ladies Jubilee Cup, and the Open Mixed Foursomes.
Brian McGinley, South Ayrshire Council's Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, Tourism and Leisure said this year's event was shaping up to be one of the best, "We had a great response to last year's competition with more than 300 entries across all the different competitions, and we're hoping to exceed that this time round.
"With the fantastic newly refurbished clubhouse acting as the base for competitors and spectators alike, everyone involved can be sure of a first rate experience when they descend on Troon for this year's event.
"I'd urge anyone with an interest in taking part to put your name forward as soon as possible, with the chance of competing on some of the area's very best golf courses a great reason to get involved."
The closing date for entries is Wed 2nd August 2017. Full details on the Troon Weekender can be found here.
