Medal winners Cerys and Jack get ready for the Big Fit Walk
Medal winning athletes Cerys McCrindle and Jack Dickson were in Ayr recently as part of the launch of this year's Big Fit Walk.
When Scottish charity, Paths for All decided to launch their national campaign in Ayr, South Ayrshire Council knew local Team GB athletes Cerys and Jack would love to get involved.
Both Cerys and Jack will be leading the walk which takes place on Friday 24 May at 11am starting from St Germain en Laye gardens outside the County Buildings in Ayr.
The walk which will last around 30 minutes will head along the esplanade taking in the stunning coastline before looping back to the gardens for some fresh fruit and water courtesy of Tesco Store in Ayr.
Cerys who picked up bronze at the Down Syndrome World Swimming Championships said: "I'm most looking forward to meeting new people and chatting as we walk."
Jack who won gold and bronze medals at the Special Olympics World Games in Abu Dhabi said: "I think this is a great event to get people out walking and being active.
Eileen Howat, Chief Executive at South Ayrshire Council said: "Walking is a great way to get active, improve health and wellbeing and socialise at the same time. It's an activity that most of us can do and walking for just 30 minutes a day can have massive health benefits.
"I hope there is a good turnout on Friday 24 May and I would like to thank both Cerys and Jack for getting behind the Paths for All campaign."
Ian Findlay, Chief Officer at Paths for All said: "We are delighted to be in South Ayrshire to launch this year's Big Fit Walk campaign. The Big Fit Walk is all about bringing people together to enjoy a walk in a fun and relaxed way. Each June it inspires people of all ages and abilities to be more active by inviting them to organise or join a 30-minute walk in their community.
"This year, we'd like the Big Fit Walk to be a way for everyone to sample how simple and enjoyable walking in a friendly group is and encourage everyone to walk regularly, for example by joining one of our weekly health walks."
Ayr's Big Fit Walk is wheelchair friendly and suitable for all ages and abilities, so come along and enjoy the experience.
Paths for All support communities, schools, groups, and workplaces across Scotland to organise their own health walks throughout the year.
