South Ayrshire Council would like to congratulate the national Environmental Health and Trading Standards COVID-19 Expert Officer Group after they won the Chartered Trading Standards Institute UK COVID-19 Team Hero Award last month.
The group, which is chaired by our Environmental Health Co-ordinator, Brian Lawrie, manages the work of Environmental Health and Trading Standards teams throughout Scotland. Its aim is to improve national enforcement consistency, whilst also acting as the link with the Scottish Government and other agencies.
The UK COVID-19 Team Hero Award recognises the contribution of the team and its service in fighting the effects of COVID-19 on consumers, both locally and nationally.
Brian, who is also the Vice Chair of the Society of Chief Officers of Environmental Health, said: "I was delighted to accept this award on behalf of the Environmental Heath and Trading Standards officers who have contributed to the group since it was formed in March.
"All the group's members have gone above and beyond to ensure that local authority teams are properly supported, and that the success we have had in joining up the approach between Environmental Health and Trading Standards in Scotland is highlighted."
Councillor Philip Saxton, South Ayrshire Council Portfolio Holder for Housing and Community Wellbeing said: "This is well-deserved national recognition for the excellent work the group have carried out over the last six months.
"This year has been a difficult one for all of us, and I'd like to congratulate everyone involved for their continuous hard work.
"We take pride in working in partnership with other authorities to improve services, and I'm sure the efforts of the combined Expert Officer Group have really made a difference to many individuals and businesses in Scotland."
