Staff at St John's Primary celebrate their success

The standard of catering at a South Ayrshire school has been recognised with a national award for hygiene. St John's Primary School in Ayr has been unveiled as the latest to land a coveted Eat Safe Award, for going above and beyond the legal requirements.

All South Ayrshire schools demand excellent performance for food safety and hygiene. However, the Food Standards Scotland's Eat Safe Awards demonstrates an exceptional work ethic that delivers first-class preparation by catering staff.

Ian Cochrane, South Ayrshire Council's Sustainability & the Environment said the recognition was well deserved, "We're committed to giving our children the best start in life and delivering nutritious meals at school is something we take great pride in.

"I'd like to congratulate all the staff at St John's for their achievement in landing this latest award, something that shows just how seriously we take our responsibilities in food preparation in our schools."

17 other South Ayrshire schools have already gained Eat Safe Awards: Alloway Primary, Ayr Academy, Barassie Primary, Belmont Academy, Carrick Academy, Coylton Primary, Doonfoot Primary, Forehill Primary, Girvan Academy, Glenburn Primary, Heathfield Primary, Kyle Academy, Marr College, Monkton Primary, Muirhead Primary, Prestwick Academy, and Queen Margaret Academy.
