17 community groups and organisations in Girvan and South Carrick are celebrating after landing fresh funding to help support their work. 141 people turned out to take part in the latest event aimed at getting more people actively involved in local decision making.

Among the successful projects: A rural bus service to support the Girvan Folk Festival,  a book group in Barr, new bowls in Colmonell to get young people into the sport, a free walking football centre in Girvan, and plans for a new community Garden in Colmonell.

Up to £40,000 was available at the Girvan and South Carrick locality planning group event, which took place at Colmonell Primary School on Saturday, 17 March, 2018.

Grants were available up to £5000, with voting open to anyone who lived, worked, volunteered or studied in Girvan, Dailly, Barr, Colmonell, Lendalfoot, Ballantrae, Barrhill & Pinmore, aged 10+.

Councillor Douglas Campbell, Leader of South Ayrshire Council, said, "Supporting our rural communities is an important part of what we do and these latest grants helped local groups take forward important projects.

"It's the first time a decision day event has been held in Colmonell and the great turnout on the day highlights the strength of support for a broad range of organisations working to make lives better.

"I'd like to thank everyone working behind the scenes for helping to organise the event and wish all those who took good luck as the latest projects are brought to life."
