Inspirational Fairtrade conference

It was a celebration of all things Fairtrade recently as Kyle Academy hosted a conference for South Ayrshire schools.

Over 150 children, young people and staff attended the event which was a chance to hear about the numerous Fairtrade projects which are taking place in so many of our schools.

The conference was opened by Councillor Brian McGinley, Economic Development and Tourism Portfolio Holder for South Ayrshire Council, he said: "As an integral part of the local Fairtrade partnership, the Council is very much committed to promoting economic fairness both at home and abroad.

"One of the Council's aims is that everyone should have the opportunity to succeed and paying a fair price for produce will help level the playing field and empower people from all backgrounds.

"Hearing about what our schools are doing to promote Fairtrade was inspirational. The children and young people are passionate about sustainable food production and know how interdependent we are with food producers from around the world.

"The message from the conference is clear, we can all help make a difference so please look out for the Fairtrade logo next time you're in the supermarket."
